Welcome to the Latest News at Merriewold Morgans

Under the direction of  Merriewold’s trainer Jackie Brittain, our new foals are groomed and handled on a daily basis.  During this time the foals become accustomed to and accept the people around them and learn to trust and respect humans.   They are brushed, have their legs and feet handled, learn to wear a halter and walk on a lead.

 In this photo Merriewold Kirin and Merriewold Kona are learning to walk on a lead rope next to their handlers Ubaldo and Abbie.

      
Here Kirin meets the farrier, Mike LaGrone for the first time.  And Kona gets her first trim.  These first encounters are as much training as actual trimming.  They begin a life long association with the person responsible for the health of their feet. 

  It was a lovely day and the turn out was even better than we had hoped…70-90 neighbors, friends and Morgan horse enthusiasts!  We will be writing a full article with many more photos so please, if you attended send your photos to:

Marika (Patchett Hill x Caduceus Exira (x Wyoming Flyhawk)) is an example of the top quality from the Caduceus breeding program.  She not only has great sport horse conformation but also has an elegant head and neck with a big soulful eye and a friendly and willing disposition.  She is a World, National and Regional Champion.

Meet Merriewold Java (Dragonfire Kirin x Caduceus Marika)

Merriewold Hero (Bethesda Carbon Copy x MJVM Serena) is now a three year old and continuing his ground training in preparation to be started under saddle. He is sensitive and forward and so eager to please.
 

Merriewold Gaysha (WH Zimbabwe x Majesty My Fair Lady) is four, and we have been taking it really slow because of her accident (see article).  She has made a complete recovery and is doing great in training.  In these photos Jackie is ground driving her and Gaysha is relaxed and attentive.
